Build a routine that works when motivation doesn’t.

A business lesson that travels well into the rest of life.

BY HIBA RIZVI

Progress, personally.

“Work on my business.” “Get stronger.” “Travel more.” All good intentions. None of them tells you what to do next Tuesday.

One thing building a business has taught me is to make progress specific. Choose a result you care about, then choose a weekly action that moves you towards it. Five thoughtful follow-ups, a booked workout, or a regular contribution to a travel fund is something you can actually do.

Give that action a place in your calendar. Then make it easier to repeat. Keep the follow-up list where you will use it. Book the class ahead of time. Reduce the number of decisions standing between you and the next step.

Consistency also needs room for real life. Some weeks are full. Plans change. Review what worked, adjust what did not, and come back to the routine without turning one missed day into a whole abandoned plan.

I like a good plan. I also know I cannot control every outcome. Do the work, make the next useful decision, and leave room for life to unfold. That balance matters to me in business and beyond it.
